GraphLogic Receives Notice of Allowance from U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for Object Process Graph Patent
Branford, CT: GraphLogic Inc., a Connecticut based software company, announced today that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) regarding the patent of its core technology, the Object Process Graph (OPG) pat. 7,316,001. A Notice of Allowance is issued by the USPTO when one or more of the claims of a patent application have been accepted on their merits. The time from a Notice of Allowable claims to issuance of a patent is generally two to three months. GraphLogic scientists invented the Object Process Graph pat. 7,316,001 in the early years of the company, and filed for patent protection of this novel technology soon thereafter. This patent marks the first in a series of patents that cover GraphLogic's core technology and marks the beginning of a substantial intellectual property portfolio owned by the company. GraphLogic is also prosecuting broad patent protection of its cutting edge technologies on the international stage.
The Object Process Graph is a new foundation for how software is both developed and run. The OPG provides a higher level structure from which all software can be constructed. Prior to this invention a vast amalgamation of programming languages and databases provided the foundational structure from which software systems were created. These programming languages - having evolved from machine languages derived from the underlining hardware architecture of the computer - are poorly suited to create computer applications that can deal with the complexities of business.
The Object Process Graph is a general purpose executable graph which synthesizes every aspect of an application, including programming logic, database and user interface. The advantage of using an OPG over existing architectures is that the OPG provides a higher level, much more intuitive architecture from which development and run-time software platforms can be constructed. The OPG architecture has been built entirely in software, using industry standard software platforms, and can interface with existing development, run-time, and database platforms. With this new foundation, GraphLogic believes the elusive "silver bullet" of software development, which has eluded the finest minds in the world over the last four decades is finally here.
GraphLogic has already created a complete development and run-time platform called PointDragon™, which is based on the OPG technology. This 100% web-based platform is available to the general public over the web at www.pointdragon.com.
The OPG was invented by four GraphLogic scientists led by Steven A. Gold, Ph.D., Founder and CEO. David Baker, Hongping Liang, Ph.D., and Vladimir Gusev, Ph.D, are named co-inventors on the OPG patent.
"This is a significant development for GraphLogic, and it will have a great impact on the entire software industry, noted Dr. Steven Gold. "The OPG enables a novel approach to software construction and maintenance, one that will allow software applications to be built orders of magnitude faster than previously possible using older technologies. This approach will open up entire new vistas for software applications that previously were infeasible due to cost and time constraints."
David Baker, Director of Software Engineering at GraphLogic, believes that "the OPG technology has the potential to be a major advance in software development. The OPG is not an invention that represents incremental changes to traditional development initiatives, but is a totally new architecture," declared Baker. "Only a completely new, disruptive approach to the problem would work - we knew that simply elaborating on old ideas just wouldn't solve the problem." With over forty years' experience in the field, Baker is uniquely positioned to both understand the problems and use his experience to find a solution.
"We knew we couldn't reiterate the same techniques to solve problems which have plagued the software development process since its inception. We had to come up with a truly novel approach, and in doing so, we were able to achieve a very significant, and very important result," announced GraphLogic Chief Developer, Hongping Liang, Ph.D.
The patent protection afforded the OPG marks the beginning of an important phase for GraphLogic as it moves forward with marketing plans to promote the technology in both its life sciences software products and with its unique web-based PointDragon developer portal. With other patents pending both on the national and international stage, GraphLogic is poised to stake a broad intellectual property claim on breakthrough technology with very wide commercial applicability across all sectors of the software industry.
